The DSR Dynamic Shear Rheometer is used to study the rheological properties of asphalt and to test the mechanical properties of asphalt binders at different times, under different loading conditions, and under different climatic conditions. For example, SHRP (Strategic Highway Research Program) grading measurements of asphalt, viscosity measurements, etc., can be used to measure matrix asphalt, polymer modified asphalt, rubber powder modified asphalt, as well as after pressure aging, rotating film oven treatment of aging asphalt. The dynamic shear modulus and phase angle of asphalt are measured to evaluate the viscous (non-recoverable) and elastic (recoverable) properties of aged and unaged asphalt over a temperature range of 5-85°C, and to predict the ability to resist rutting, optimize thermal performance, aging performance, and fatigue cracking performance.
