The geometric condition of the retroreflective marking measuring instrument is designed to simulate the situation when a car is driving on a highway at night. The car headlights illuminate the markings made of retroreflective materials on the road surface, which are reflected and observed by the driver sitting in the car cab.
The angle between the optical axis of the headlight and the normal line of the road surface (reference axis) is called the incident angle (β), specified as 88.76°; the angle between the optical axis of the headlight and the retroreflective light is called the observation angle (α), specified as 1.05°. The light source and optical system project light onto the marking line at these specific angles. The measurement size is 300mm x 60mm. Reflected light is detected by a V (λ) filter and processed to display the retroreflection coefficient (R') value.
